We are happy to have you! Take a look at the website, join our MySpace friends, send us an email or give us a call at (901) 335-MAGY. An advisor can answer most questions over email or MySpace. For the safety and confidentiality of our members, the meeting location can only be given over the phone.
Who is MAGY?
Our
members come from all areas of the GLBTQ community. We have teens who
identify as gay, lesbian, male to female transgendered, female to male
transgendered, drag queens, bi-sexual, questioning and straight. Our teens
are from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. We have some members
in college, some in traditional high schools, and some in home school.
We are a very diverse group!
What to expect at Friday meetings ...
Again, please call (901) 335-MAGY for the meeting location. The doors are open from 7pm to 10pm and the meeting begins at about 8pm. Each meeting is led by two or three adult advisors. The group varies from week to week, but there are usually 20 to 25 teens.
Meeting plans can be found on the Calendar page and on MySpace. Meetings begin and end with free time indoors or on the patio. Discussion topics have included sexual assault, peer pressure and coming out. On other nights there are games, cook outs, movies or "share time". All MAGY members are invited to the monthly board meetings to help plan the next month's topics.
The MAGY room is comfy, with large couches and bean bag chairs. The room is decorated by MAGY kids (even the ceiling tiles and ping pong table). There is also a foosball table and a drag closet. The fridge is stocked with sodas and on the nights when Karen is an advisor, there are brownies! Check out pics of our room on the Photos page.
